About the IOV
The Veneto Institute of Oncology IOV – IRCCS is the first and only medical center in the Veneto region specific for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer and for cancer research.
IOV was established by the Veneto Regional Government in December 2005, becoming a highly specialized health research center of national and international importance.
It is recognized by the Ministry of Health as a research hospital (IRCCS) and by the Organization of European Cancer Institutes (OECI) as a Comprehensive Cancer Center. It is a member of the network of excellence Alliance Against Cancer (ACC), the largest Italian organization of clinical and translational cancer research, and of the European Network for Rare Adult Solid Cancer EURACAN.
Scientific research integrated into clinical care is the characteristic that substantially differentiates the IOV from other healthcare companies without the IRCCS qualification. The IOV, in addition to being subject to the control system of the Veneto Region, undergoes, a two-year verification process by the Ministry of Health to confirm the IRCCS status for cancer care and research and an annual verification of scientific research results, which is linked to the funding of current research activities.
The integration of research and clinical care guarantees the provision of diagnostic and treatment services according to standards of excellence, both in ordinary hospitalization, including day hospital and day surgery, and outpatient procedures. To provide these services, IOV employs avant-garde diagnostic-therapeutic pathways (PDTA), in line with standards recognized at the European level and as indicated by regional provisions, based on a multidisciplinary approach to cancer, which focuses on the person and the quality of his or her life. IOV carries out its activities in agreement with the City Hospital of Padua, Local Health Unit “no. 6 Euganea” and the University of Padua.
The diagnostic-therapeutic pathways (PDTA) are set up within the Veneto Oncology Network (ROV) and the Veneto Hematological Network (REV). The Veneto Region has designated IOV as the head of the Regional Coordination and hub of the ROV, in strict harmony with the Hospital Companies of Padua and Verona. In this sense, the IOV is the fulcrum of the Veneto regional network of Breast Unit centers.
The Veneto Institute of Oncology is based in Padua, Italy, at the Busonera Hospital. Other sites in Padua include the Radiotherapy Building, in the University Hospital area, and the offices of the Scientific Directorate, the Administrative Directorate and their staff services, located in piazza Gaetano Salvemini. IOV also has two branch locations: outpatient clinics and surgical and oncologic departments at San Giacomo Hospital in Castelfranco Veneto (TV) and a Radiotherapy clinic at Ospedali Riuniti, Schiavonia (Monselice, PD). The laboratories are located at the Busonera Hospital complex and the Research Tower “Fondazione Citta’ della Speranza”.
Mission
The mission of the IOV consists in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer, and the pursuit of excellence in these fields through the development of basic, translational and clinical research, as well as the improvement in the organization of cancer treatment and care.
Fundamental elements are the rapid transfer of research results to patients, the multidisciplinary approach and the coordinated networking with the other cancer services throughout the Veneto region.
Vision
IOV – IRCCS is distinguished by its approach to cancer, which is characterized by the integration of primary and secondary prevention, treatment and research. IOV is part of a system that is widely oriented towards the continuous improvement of the quality of care and research in order to meet the increasingly complex needs of the population, making use of the evolution of techniques and knowledge.
The humanisation of care, the attention to the needs of the patient and family members, respect for human dignity and the entire person in all his/her biological, psychophysical and relational aspects, are the hallmarks shared throughout the IOV.
By virtue of its vocation for innovation, the IOV – IRCCS guarantees the continuity of care, the integration of health care professionals and services, and an appropriate and equitable use of resources.
