Nuclear Medicine (Castelfranco Veneto)
The Nuclear Medicine Unit in Castelfranco Veneto mainly carries out diagnostic activities with PET-CT methodology. A wide range of radio-pharmaceuticals are available to the Unit, including 18F-FDG for the study of a wide range of tumors, 11C-choline for prostate tumors, 68Ga-DOTATOC and 18F-DOPA for neuroendocrine tumors, and 11C-methionine for those of the brain. The method is mainly used for staging, checking the effectiveness of therapies and suspected disease recurrence.
Another important activity is scintigraphy for the detection of sentinel lymph node in patients with breast cancer or melanoma. On the therapeutic side, the treatment of bone metastases with Radium 223 is also performed in patients with prostate cancer.
